How Can An Intertrigo Rash On The Elbow Crease Be Treated?

I have had what I think is an intertrigo rash for over a year in my left elbow crease. It is rarely itchy or prominent but sometimes it has episodes where it is. Occassionally it comes up on my right arm to a lesser extent, but goes away. I am 22 and overweight. About 4 weeks ago this rash came up on my right arm and when itching I noticed a small lump on the inside of my elbow crease under my skin. At the time I thought my skin was irritated because I might be allergic to my new moisturizer so I stopped using it. Now underneath the skin there is a huge swollen patch that extends from the very edge of the inside of my elbow crease to the middle. It only hurts if I have been prodding it a lot, otherwise it is easy to forget that it s there. The rash is still there but is less prominent and no longer itchy. I am worried that the bump, which feels rubbery, is a node. Does this sound like something I should be worried about? The swelling hasn t subsided with ice or ibuprofen.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

As you stated, the swelling is likely a lymph node, these are present in the elbow region. Lymph nodes respond to infection or inflammation in a particular area and these nodes are responding to the infection by the elbow.

When the infection resolves then they would resolve though this can take weeks.

The infection may be fungal. It may respond to either topical antifungals or oral antifungal medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
