How Can An Injured ACL In The Knees Be Treated?

I had tore my ACL(70% torn) and doctors advised me to go for surgery. Its been 8months i had been walking with torn ACL and i dont involve in any activity which will affect my ACL again(usual walk but while climbing stairs i am careful enough not to twist my knee). Is it ok to postpone the surgery by 4-5 years, will it not cause any other effect to surrounding tissue, muscle, tendon etc or i have to take surgery at the earliest?

Hi,

Surgery is advisable based on amount of tear age and amount of physical activity you are expecting. Surgery is generally avoided in old age, low tear %, and sedentary lifestyle (moderate walking and stair climbing). You can avoid surgery on the above basis for relief now but do remember that if you need surgery as you have 70% tear. What is your age ? So it's better to do that at earliest because after 12 months the chances of complications increases.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Arihant Pandey
