I AM A 91 YEARS OLD MAN WITH AN INGUINAL HERNIA ( FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS) NEVER GAVE ME PROBLEMS .NOW , IT BEGAN TO HURT . I AM IN A FAIRLY GOOD HEALTH CONDITIONS ( BUT VERY OLD) IS IT ADVISABLE TO UNDERGO SURGERY ? WHAT ARE THE RISKS IF I GO UNDER THE KNIFE? DO I HAVE ANY OTHER OPTIONS TO SVOID A POSSIBLE STRANGULATION ( WHAT ABOUT USING A TRUSSE?) THANK YOU MY NAME IS JOE

inguinal hernia is a relatively safe type of hernia as chances for obstruction of the herniating gut is relatively less.

however considering your symptom of pain the problem needs to be reviewed by your general surgeon to Evaluate
chances of obstruction I’d required by ultrasonogram of inhumanly region.
