How Can An Infected Swollen Injury On Thumb Be Treated?

I have recently cut my thumb at work and it has gotten infected. No oozing of any fluids but it has swollen up a bit. The color is whitish yellow in the center with a red ring around it. My question is can I treat the infection myself or do I have to see a doctor and get antibiotics? I have been taking care of it but I need to know if it needs to be treated professionally or is there ways I can treat it myself and have it heal.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that there is more of inflammation then infection and you need to take a short course of antibiotics like Amoxicillin or Ciprofloxacin,painkiller like aleve or advil, clean the area with an antiseptic solution and apply a combination of triple antibiotic ointment and steroid ointment over it..
You should keep the wound protected from water and dust..
Do cool compresses to relieve inflammation..
In case if it does not improve in a week consult a physician and get evaluated..
