How Can An Infected Surgical Wound On The Breast Be Treated?

My daughter in law had breast cancer and had a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery. She also had nipples made. Her breasts are infected and the stitches are tearing open and bleeding. She has been back to hospital a few times but breasts are getting worse looking. The also recommended using bleach and water solution but it burns her. the antibiotics they put her on make her not able to see clearly and very dizzy. What can she do.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First thing she need to do is do a breast wound culture sensitivity test. Depending on the bacteria found sensitive antibiotics need to be given. Also wash the area locally with normal saline and povidone iodine solution.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
