How Can An Enlarged Liver And Spleen Be Treated?

Greetings Dr. My Son is 5 yrs old diagnosed with enlarged spleen 16 cm and enlarged liver 13 cm. we have done every possible test to know the enlarged caused and found that he is having B Thalessemia trait, no infection was found. My deep concern is what will be next step and worried if spleen get rapture. kindly suggest some guidance. thank you. saeed

Hi,

You can do frequent follow up with ultrasound scan. Thalassemia trait is not that much severe and most probably will not require blood transfusions either. You can also go for prophylactic splenectomy also in case spleen massively enlarged.
