Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was prescribed Cefdinir 300 mg for an ongoing (6 month) ear infection (adult). I can t find any information to support this prescription for this purpose or any info re: side effects. The ear infection was only seen visually, not tested and I ve been using h2o2 for 6 months topically which has decreased the pain but not eliminated the infection nor prevented it from spreading to my mastoid bone. Should I take this or something different?
There is no substitute for a direct ear examination using an otoscope and a direct throat examination.
Get her ears and throat examined by a local ENT Specialist, who may then prescribe medication including ear drops. I assume that her ear discharge was not foul smelling.
There may be ear wax or an infection. This may act as a septic focus leading to low-grade fever.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
