How Can An Ankle Sprain Be Treated?

I sprained my ankle on saturday. Had an X-ray and it s not broken but today my leg is cold and slightly swollen. It s worse when I m standing. I m on a crutch still. Should I be worried? The ankle is still wrapped and doesn t hurt as bad as it did a couple of days ago.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

The majority of ankle sprains are simple - need temporary rest and completely heal with no residual consequences.

More significant ligament injuries that occur to the ankle can present as a simple ankle sprain and need to be treated with at least immobilization in a cast for a period of 2-3 weeks. Not to bear weight on the injured joint.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
