How Can Allergic Rashes On The Body Be Treated?

I HAVE BENN HAVING GIANT HIVES ALL OVER MY BODY OFF ON. I WONDER WHAT IS THE BEST OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATION TO TAKE FOR THIS PROBLEM? I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A ALLERGY DOCTOR IN ONE WEEK FROM TODAY. I HAVE BURNING AND LARGE SWELLING WELKS THAT BURN. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE BENADRYL AND I PICKED UP DIPHENHYDRAMINE HCI 25MG. WITH ACETAMINOPHEN 325 MG AND PHENYLEPHRINE HCL 5 MG. IS THE SAME MEDICATION AS BENADRIL?

Hello,

Hives all over the body that itch and burn are most probably due to an allergic reaction. Yes, Diphenhydramine is the active ingredient in Benadryl, but acetaminophen and phenylephrine are other drugs commonly given in cold. So it is better to take Diphenhydramine alone, and this combination is not needed. You can also take Allegra or Levocetirizine. Apply Steroid gel over the hives. Do ice packs over it and apply Calamine lotion. Avoid scratching too much.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
