How Can Allergic Cough Be Treated?

Hi. I am having cough due to allergy since last few months. Initially doctor had prescribed me montek LC for 15 days and then montek 10 for 165 days. Then after tests, I was told to stop the medicine and again continue for 6 months if problem occurs again. Now since few days I have started facing problems again. I took montek 10 for 2 days, but it's not that effective. Should I take montek LC in place of montek 10?

Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have gone through your history.

Allergic cough is quite difficult to control. You can take montek LC in place of montek as levocetrizine part of montek LC helps to provide symptomatic relief.
If symptoms persist despite taking montek LC,I suggest you to consult a general practitioner and get the following things done:
1.A codeine containing cough syrup help to suppress the cough.
2.Oral or inhaled steroid may be needed depending on the severity of the illness.
3.Frequent nebulizations using bronchodialator drugs may be needed.
4.Antibiotic therapy may be required if you have superimposed bacterial infections.
5.Investigations like chest X-ray and spirometry to assess the severity of the disease.

You can try the following preventive measures to avoid exacerbations:-
1.Avoid smoke and dust.
2.Control indoor humidity using a humidifier.
3.Quit smoking.
4.Avoid being in polluted places for prolonged periods

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.

Regards.
