How Can Achilles Tendon Injury Be Treated?

I had a rock hit my Achilles tendon on the back of my leg right above the heel. It came fast as a bullet when my sister was mowing the lawn with the riding mower. I was about 20 feet away. It swelled up right away about double in size. It felt like lightening hit me. Do I need a doctor appointment to make sure it heals properly? I heard the tendon gets shorter and crooked when damaged. I have been icing and elevating it a lot.

Hello,

Yes, you need to see an orthopedist, after clinical examination, he may recommend an MRI to rule out ligament ruptures.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Mirjeta Guni, Endocrinologist
