Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Have 89 year old father in law we suspect had a seizure. Bitten tongue. Acting in hospital Adgitated and frustrated. Repeating questions. Speech ok but confused and jumbled.. first time. Slight blatter infection not suspected as cause. What to think happened in bed Sunday am.
If a seizure happens just once sometimes it is not treated as it might have been a one off event. If it happens more than once it has to be treated with anti-epileptics. There are several types including valproate, phenytoin, levetiracetam just to name a few. During an acute attack valium may need to be given to stop the seizure. An investigation for a cause of seizures needs to be done to exclude medical causes like a stroke for example. Usually blood tests and a CT scan of the brain are done.
Kind Regards
