Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Would a 12 mm needle broke off into the bend of my arm be able to enter the bloodstream and move to the heart. I wasn t seeing blood when it broke. I tried to remove it but couldn t find the end. Should I go have it removed? Will it be ok to leave it? I cant feel it any when bending my arm etc. Can the hospital contact law enforcement or cps ,etc without my permission? It s been there a week. I m nervous embarrassed, ashamed, and to make things worse I can t get a straight answer on the internet. I Would have already had it taken care of if it were a smaller size. Please I need advice.
leaving the broken needle in your vein can be dangerous, as it can travel to your heart or even to in time to the lungs depending on the length of the needle. It is quite easy to remove it in the O.R, under Ultrasound, CT guidance or under fluroscopy. It may please be done while the needle is in your arm. With the availability of advanced equipments, it can also be removed once it has reached the heart. But why make it so complicated. Please get it removed, at the earliest, while it is the arm.
