How Can A Needle Prick Injury On The Finger Be Treated?

Hi, I was in a work accident and while I was tailoring a pair of dress pants i broke off a needle from the sewing machine and it penetrated my left index finger. It was bleeding badly but then I washed it with soap and water, pushed some blood out and put some paper towels on it. Ten minutes later I put rubbing alcohol on the wound to disinfect the area. Should I be worried? Should I go get a tetanus shot? What exactly should I do? I am not sure of the last time I got a tetanus shot.

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about finger injury.

If your wound is open and there are chances of contamination you must go for a tetanus shot, normally ever healthy person must do it once in six months. If you had not one in last six months go for it.

Keep your wound clean and don't put any home remedies on it. If you feel any burning or throbbing in your finger or discharge of pus, you may need antibiotics like ofloxicin course too. Otherwise there is no such need.

Hope my answer will help you and visit us back if you have any more queries.

Regards
