How Can A Lump On The Leg Caused By An Injury Be Treated?

This lady fell trying to get out of bed and onto potty chair stumbled and her leg hit her metal bed frame. It instantly caused a big knot and bruise but didnt cut the skin. We ve keep ice on it for most part and although it looks better it still has a big knot that is completely bruised it s been 3 days. Is there something to put on the bruised area on the outside. General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

All the symptoms you have mentioned suggestive of hematoma. It is nothing but a collection that develop under the skin following a blunt trauma.
If the swelling and pain persist for long,an X-ray have to be taken to rule out minor fracture or contusion.

You can try the following as a first line management:-
(1)- Apply ice packs over the affected area. You can also try alternate warm and cold compresses.
(2)- You can take simple analgesics like aceclofenac for pain.
(3)- Immobilize the affected limb for one week. You can suspend the arm in a brace.
(4)- Counter irritant creams can be applied for symptomatic relief.
If pain and swelling persist despite all these consult a general practitioner and get an X-ray done to rule out minor contusion.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
Dr.Shinas
