Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi i was playing soccer and i kicked the ball without locking my ankle, and i wanted to know if there was possibly a ligament i pulled. it hurts when i point it up and down. on the top of my foot and my outside ankle. And sometimes it hurts on the inside of my ankle.
Yes, there is a possibility of ligament sprain while hitting the ball in the unlocked position of the ankle joint. Due to the mechanism of Injury, there will be microtrauma to the fibers of the ligaments.
Making the joint immobilized and icing should help reduce the pain. Performing balance board training which is common in most sports to avoid ankle injury is advised.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
