How Can A Knee Bruise Be Treated?

My husband feel on concrete on his knee, about two weeks ago. He is 71. He had long pants on and the knee just looked scraped. We bandaged it and it seemed to be fine. Three days ago we went on a hike. The slope of the trail was steep. After the hike, his knee started to bother him. Then it started to swell. We went to a clinic and the doctor prescribed an antibiotic, he took X-rays and said the knee was not damaged. He felt it was bruisist. We also have a compression bandage that was wrapped on his knee before we felt. We have an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon in about ten days. Today when I took the wrap off, the knee looks very bruised. The swelling has not increased but the knee had not been bruised when we went to the clinic. I should also say, he does not have a fever, the swelling has not increased, he has taken the antibiotic for two days and has five more days to take. He is also diabetic. Do we need to be doing anything else?

If you have a portable Glucometer with you it will be a better idea to check his fasting Blood Sugar. Remember it shouldn't be above 110. Fasting that is.

Second thing to do is to fetch some Paracetamol immediately. We need it do its job as a pain reliever as well as an anti inflammatory.

Third thing to do is to relax. The knee is just getting better and looks more reddish now as it is getting more blood supply and faster.

Hope it helps. Godspeed.
