Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my friend has a concrete thick slab smash her finger. she went to a not so good emergency room and they stitched her up and told her to go see a specialist. when they were flushing the wound out, pieces of bone they said flushed out too. this was at the tip of her index finger. the hospital told her she would probably need to get it amputated. they told her, the bone was crushed as well. her fingered to the first knuckle is black, there is no purple involved in the coloring, just black black. she is in so much pain and cannot move her finger. they didn t even put a splint on her finger nothing at all just stitches.
If the bones are fragmented and vascular supply is hampered ( indicated by black discolouration) we can not salvage the finger and it has to be amputated to prevent further speared of infection to more proximal part of fingers.
You can consult an orthopaedician and look for any possibilities of finger saving procedures.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
