How Can A Fracture On The Left Hand Be Treated?

I believe I have a 2nd metacarpal neck fracture on my left hand, it’s painful but I can make a fist and the finger doesn’t look crooked while doing so. My concern is it is very stiff trying to ball a fist and there seems to be a bulge right below the knuckle. Tomorrow will be a week since I had hurt it, will this be ok to heal on it’s own or where it’s been a week could a doctor be able to do anything with it?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

We have to rule out a fracture first. Get an X-ray hand AP and oblique view. Metacarpal fracture can be easily visualized in X-ray. If there is fracture, immobilize the hand in a arm slab for two weeks. Most of the metacarpal fractures doesn’t require surgery and do well with conservative management. You can take analgesics like ibuprofen or Diclofenac for pain. If symptoms are severe, consult an orthopedic.
