Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I slipped on ice about 1.5 weeks ago and bruised leg pretty bad banging it on slate steps. Color has mostly returned, but it is rather firm to the touch and slightly warm (not as warm as last week). Is this normal progress of a bruise of this type?
First of all, do not panic. If your swelling, pain, and discoloration are decreasing then your body is healing from the trauma. If pain, swelling, fever is present, it indicates the presence of infection.
Please seek prescription support from your treating doctor for a broad-spectrum antibiotic like Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid two times a day for five days, and analgesic like Paracetamol as needed. Ice fomentation with an ice pack will be of help. Do not rub or massage the affected area at all.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar
