How Can A Benign Mass In The Inner Ear Be Treated?

My husband ( 78 ) has a benign mass in inner ear. Surgery can t get it without damaging facial nerves. Has hearing loss in that ear. Labs show the mass is infection. It is helped by round of steroids but unbearable pain behind ear comes back in short time. Pain is so severe it cannot be controlled expect by hydrocone 10.5. Specialist at UT Southwestern in Dallas are puzzled. Has had two biopsys. General health was good before and was still working every day. Any tips?

Hello,

Benign mass with severe pain means then better to go for surgery. surgery can be done by experienced hands.

But even though the risk of facial nerve injury will be there. You may take NSAIDs or opioids for pain relief but meeting mind that long-term intake may cause a number of side effects.

Please consult your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.
