How can a bald patch on the scalp be treated?

I think I have congenital hypotrichosis because I was born with a large narrow oval, on the top of my head, followed by a smaller circle bald spot behind it. I am only twelve, and I was wondering if there are ANY medication to make to hair grow back, even if you have to be older to take them. I do not want a hair transplant.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history you are having aplasia cutis on scalp, leading to bald patch.
My treatment advice is -
1. It is a genetic condition and cannot be reversed.
2. Only curative treatment is hair transplantation done by a dermato-surgeon.

Thanks.

Sometime this past fall I noticed a patch of scalp showing through my hair at the crown . As time went on it became more difficult to hide it with combing over with hair and then spraying it. At present, if I lift up fairly large pieces of hair down the back of my head more pieces of scalp are unusually visible. I have always had very thick hair and have always been complimented on it. I am 77. Can you please give me some advice? YYYY@YYYY

How do you treat an area on the top of the head which is red, pus looking but no real drainage. Just a red area on the to of his head in the balding area of his scalp. This occurred after wearing an acrylic beanie in the rain for approximately 4-6 hours 2 days ago.

Hi, I have been diagnosed with scalp dermatitis. My scalp is very dry and crusty on the right side and my hair there has stopped growing hence very thin hair and bald patches. I would like to know if my hair is likely to grow after the treatment is done? Thanks.
