I think your dad is not doing physical exercise, is his job sedentary in nature? does he have symptoms like faintness or giddiness or he gets irritated very soon, does he takes sleeping pills. There are lots of reasons for the above reading. If your dad is feeling fine with this BP, leave him alone or you can consult a cardiologist for further evaluation.

Hi, my dad s blood pressure has been up since yesterday (ranges from 182/100 to 201/100). My dad says that he feels fine regardless. He s been taking his med, but his rheumatologist doctor told me that he has edema and gout. He received a shot for his gout yesterday, which relieved his pain, but his bp is still very high. I haven t heard from my dad s cardiologist on what to do, but is there anything I can do at home to improve his bp? My dad s bp normally averages 160/90. Thanks for your help.

I want to help my Dad lower his high blood pressure . Where can I find recipes that will help him lower his bp ? I really want to help my Dad lower his blood pressure. I know that he needs to avoid excess salt or anything that contains high salt content but he s a single Dad now and he and my brother live alone and since he doesn t ever have time to cook, he makes unhealthy food choices that are quick to prepare (mostly heat and eat stuff). These are usually really high sodium too which isn t helping his condition so I want to help them out by preparing some healthy meals for them. Especially for helping my Dad get his blood pressure to a safe range. Can anyone please give me some recipes or a link that contains recipes that are healthy for someone who has high blood pressure? I really wanna help him / them.

Yesterday I had my blood pressure measured in one of those machines with the tight arm-cuff found in drugstores. I d been walking briskly around the store before I used the machine. I was shocked by the numbers! My systolic pressure was elevated, and my diastolic was VERY elevated! I waited a few minutes, then did it again and both numbers were PERFECTLY NORMAL. I asked a pharmacist how accurate the machine was, because this seemed weird, especially since only a month ago, I had my BP taken by my doctor and it, too, was normal. The pharmacist said to sit for another minute and take a THIRD reading, then go with whatever 2 out of the 3 readings indicated. I did that, and the third reading was also normal. I felt very good about that. However.... I m concerned whether my BP rises to dangerous levels when I m exercising. It s great that it s normal and healthy when I m sitting around doing nothing, but why was it so high, albeit TEMPORARILY, just from walking briskly in the store? P.S. Don t worry -- I won t use Yahoo Answers as a substitute for medical advice. :) However, I can t get to the doctor for a few days, so I thought I d post this on Yahoo in the meantime. Thanks to all 4 folks below for thoughtful, helpful info. :) You all made me feel better. FYI, no, I do NOT exercise regularly, unfortunately. I really ought to start. I m very slim, but I m not at all cardiovascularly in shape . Anyway, I don t want to have to choose among you, so I m going to let this question go into voting. Good luck, and thanks again! :)

Dr. Oz, I know you're show is geared mostly towards women but I really am in dyer need of help. I'm a 22 year old male and I'm currently taking two 20mg instant release Adderalls a day. My blood pressure is normal on a daily basis, but high blood pressure and heart disease does run in my family. My concern is in regards to Erectile Disfunction. It is a real self confidence killer! My penis doesn't get fully erect when I'm about to have sex, its hard but not where it can stay up the air hard..excuse the reference. Also some other times it will get hard, but it will not stay that way for long amounts of time. Does anyone know why this could be? I also have trouble staying hard. For example if it slips out, there is a switch of positions,or the slightest distraction, it wont remain hard. I take adderall but don't notice a difference in this when I take it and when I don't. I exercise regularly (4-5x a week) and eat relatively healthy(for a college student). I am stressed a lot and i know that could be a cause of my problems. but does anyone have any ideas? Also is it to early for someone my age (22) to take pills such as viagra or cialis? What are the long term side effects?

I am 74 years old and have experienced hot flushes since menopause (at age 54). I experience moderate to high blood pressure and most medications for this make my symptoms worse. I have heart palpitations during these uncomfortable symptoms, experience fatigue and have night sweats which wake me up. I have Sjoegren's Syndrome with Sicca, and Peripehral neuropathy and most other aging symptoms. I don't have dementia, thankfully, but I am curious as to whether hot flushes are impacting on my blood pressure and contributing to my anxieties or could it be caused by my thyroid? My tests show a normal reading for my thyroid. I also had cancer of the uterus, grade 1, and had everything removed nine years ago and have remained cancer free to date. I hope you can help me find a way to improve the situation as I don't have any blocked arteries or heart problems so it is a mystery to me. I am worried about the impact it may eventually have on my heart. Sincerely yours,

Hello.
I'm male.
I'm 45 years old and I got high pressure blood since 17. I am currently taking 5 drugs to control (not at all) my high pressure blood.
In a recent Renal Angiography was discovered that I have my left kidney hypotrophic with important loss of parenchyma in the middle and lower thirds.
Analyses of plasma renin revealed that is high.

This hypotrophic kidney (left) is working by 37% and 63% right according to a renal scintigraphy.
The recommendation of my doctor(nephrology) is to get me out my hypotrophic kidney to control the high pressure blood and avoid having to take so many drugs.

What is your opinion on this?
