How Can HIV Infection Be Diagnosed?

I had many around 8 instances of protected sex with commercial sexworkers in a time span of 8 months.I was at a bad place in life back then.I gave that kind of life and started living a new life my last contact was on April 20 this year. After that I got tested by a) comb aids kit at ICTC at : 1) 33 days(4 weeks) 2) 71 days(10 weeks) 3) 98 days(14 weeks) and 4) 164 days(23 weeks) Which all came back negative. Also I got HIV card test at : 1)27 days (3 weeks) and 164 days which came negative. Based on my inquiry in google i found Eliza duo test is acuurate so I got tested at : 1)122 days 17 weeks which showed negative and my final test was at: 2)188 days (26 weeks) for which HIV I and HIV II antibodies ELFA Showed Non reactive 0.05 and HIV p24 antigens showe as not detected. So doctor my question is whether am nagative or wait for an year to complete and get an Eliza test again or get an RNA test to confirm if am negative.I am sorry if i found desperate..I was worried and under a lot of pressure .Thanks in advance doctor.

Hi,

Most of the test available in the market to detect HIV are very much reliable up to 97% or more. With two nonreactive reports by different types of test make the reliability around 100%. Window period for these tests are not extending beyond 12 weeks after your last exposure. You had multiple non reactive tests after this period. So you are free from HIV beyond any doubt. Don't waste your money in further tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. S. Murugan,
