How Can H1N1 Be Treated?

My brother-in-law was diagnosed and hospitalized today with H1N1 flu. He has been ill for 3 weeks, and has been seen by a doctor at least 4 times, the last time being the day before yesterday. He was tested for flu each time and assured he did not have flu, pneumonia, nor strep throat. He collapsed at home today, and is in ICU now with pneumonia and other very serious flu complications. He s been on 80% oxygen, and will be put on a respirator shortly. I have 3 questions: 1. Will the flu shot we had this year protect those of us who have been in contact with him? 2. If not, how likely is it that those of us in close contact with him today come down with the same flu virus? 3. Aside from having had the flu shot and frequent hand washing, is there anything we can do to prevent coming down with this flu virus? Thank you.
