How Can GERD And Pain Around The Gallbladder Area Be Treated?

I think my boyfriend is having problems with his gallbladder, I had mine removed many years ago & had the same symptoms he is having now. Terrible GERD, especially when I ate greasy foods, like a consistent pain in the same region where the gallbladder is located, I suggested to him to have that looked at & so far he believes me but to get him to a Dr, it takes a lot of TLC pushing. What kind of lab tests would confirm he s having problems with his gallbladder? Can you think of anything specific, cause he has Medicare & is not sure how much it would cost to - level with him & take him to the hospital to have his problems turn out an exact diagnosis. From other questionnaires - definitely in my opinion & experience- I m certain it is a gallbladder problem. Can you please list test s Dr s would take like blood tests/ urine tests to confirm the health of my boyfriend s health,

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and gall bladder disease are two different problems and require different tests for diagnosis. GERD is occurs due to increased acid production. Most common reason is intake of spicy and greasy food. It can sometimes lead to peptic ulcer.

It can be diagnosed by an endoscopy and ambulatory acid probe test. Gall bladder disease like gall bladder stones mostly leads to severe pain in abdomen mostly on the right side which radiates towards the back. Gall bladder stones can be diagnosed on an MRI or HIDA scan.

I would advise him to avoid spicy, oily and processed foods. He should also stay away from caffeine, alcohol and sugary foods. He can take a proton pump inhibitor like Omeprazole for temporary relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma Amman
