How can Ehlers-Danlos syndrome be treated?

Hello I m a 22 year old female who has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome type 3, I am trying to gather some research from doctors about the consumption of alcohol and EDS. I m trying to find out the affects it has on the body of an EDS patient compared to a healthy individual. Also if alcohol consumption causes an increase in the joint discomfort of an EDS patient.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

EDS is a congenital problem and it affects your collagen synthesis. Compoets cure is not possible only supportive treatment is offered. Most patients leads a near normal lifestyle. In some people it can causes symptoms like bleeding manifestations and increased chance for fractures. Rarely it can cause valvular dysfunctions of heart. Better to avoid alcohol as it can make your collagen more weaker and thus joint dysfunction become worse.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
