How Can COPD Be Treated?

my significant other has been diagnois with COPD we have a family physician but we think he needs to see a pulmonary doctor a specialist are you a specialist in this field if not could you make a recommendation? What she is doing for the problem does not seem to be helping him. The inhalers he has been on has steroids in them and he is trying a different one that is suppose to not have steroids in them but has to use his emergency inhaler more often and he is getting choked up more and coughing and isn t getting any sleep at night. These steroids are causing a tremendous weight gain from 194 lbs. to 250 lbs. So we need some advice an a specialist.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

First of all, you have to keep in mind few things. Stop smoking if she does and try to prevent or treat respiratory infections as early as possible.

Treatment includes:
- Give Salbutamol MDI 1 to 2 puffs whenever she get dyspnea attacks
- Give ipratropium bromide MDI puffs regularly
- Along with it continue inhalation (MDI) fluticasone propionate

As these medications are only prescribed by medical professionals, so consult a pulmonologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
