Hot Oil Splashed On Child's Face, Upper Eyelid Swollen, Red, Got Blister.

Hi, Last night, while cooking, some hot oil splashed on my 2-year-old daughter s face. I am not really sure if it affected her eye or not but I immediately washed her face with cold water. After a few minutes, I noticed that her left upper eyelid became swollen and red and even developed a small blister . But her eye looked fine and I did not notice her having any problem with it except that she kept rubbing the area and she burst the blister. I applied some burn cream to the area and it seems to be healing alright but I would like to know if there is anything I should be concerned about...what folllowup measure should I take?

Hi!
welcome to HCM!
Most substances that get in your eyes and make them burn do not cause serious eye problems. The only treatment needed for items such as soaps, shampoos, and perfumes is to immediately flush the eyes with water however burns to the eyelid or eye can cause eye problems.
Scald burns from hot liquids are the most common burns to children .your daughter has burns to her eyelid, infection is a concern as with all burns. Watch for signs of infection during the healing process. burns with open blisters are more likely to become infected and need medical treatment.its good that eyelid is healing alright but keep a watch if any pus formation or fever develops or the lesion enlarges and flares up.
Make a resolution to keep small children away from stoves and ovens when you are cooking, and do not place pot handles where a child can reach them. Never leave hot foods or liquids within reach of children. Also, be cautious about leaving hot liquids on a table with a tablecloth that young children can reach and pull down.
hope this helps.
