Hoarse Voice, Excessive Phlegm. Prescribed Lansporazole For Acid Reflux. Any Drug Interactions?

My voice has been hoarse for some time and seem to have excessive flim in my throat all of time that I try to clear out by coughing and spit it out. I went to a throat specialist about it. He said I have acid reflux and prescribed for me lansporazole, 30 mg, cap, to take two times a day, 30 minutes before meal. I have not taken the medicine yet as I am afraid it might interact with allopurinol , lisinopril , vitamin D3 , and aspirin 81 mg, I take everyday. Is it safe for me to take lansporazole with these medication? and, Will it solve my problem? Sua Pea

Dear Concerned,
Thanks for writing to us.
You have been on anti gout medications (Allopiurinol),anti hypertensive(Lisinopril),Aspirin (for heart/as antiplatelet agent) and Vitamind D3(Dietary suppliment).
The medications have a side effect of increasing the gastric parietal cells which inturn increase the HCL secretion. The upward movement of the same into food pipe will lead to Gastro Oesophageal Reflux.
The heart burn thus produced can be reduced by use of lansprazole 30 mg BID 30 mts BF as prescribed by your doctor. This will help you and there will be no drug to drug interaction.
In addition taking small frequent bland soft diet/walking for 30 mins after food/sleeping in a propped up position/avoiding fatty/spicy food/avoiding Aerated Soft drinks-all will help you.
Wishing you a quick recovery,
Best Regards.,

Hello and welcome to HCM

The medicines that you have mentioned namely allopurinol, lisinopril, vitamin D3 and aspirin do not interact with lansoprazole.
The are no side effects with the combination of these madications or any reduction in action of any of the drug.

The thing to keep in mind is that it should be taken two times a day 30 minutes before meals.
For the drug to control the reflux the timings are very important.

Thanks and take care
