Hit Head, Have Large Lump On Head. Head Hurting And Feel Tired. Suggestion?

Hi! Today I was playing football with my friend in his front yard while I went up for a catch (Calvin Johnson Style) and fell back and hit my head on the cement. As it happened, I felt disoriented and I stayed on the ground holding my head for about 30 seconds. After that I got up and I now have a large bump on my head that only slightly blead. Ever since then (5 hours ago) my head has been hurting and I have felt slightly tired. I have searched the internet and have found that I should not go to sleep in fear of never waking up. I am scared and don t know what to do. Please help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
What we are supposed to watch out AFTER a head injury, are
1. Altered sensorium(any change in the level consciousness) soon after the head injury
2. Focal or generalized fits
3. Bleeding or Discharge from Ear or nose
4. vomiting
5. Inability to use a body part say, weakness of a limb
6. Any visual problems, such as blurring of vision or double vision.
7. New deafness in one or both ears.
8. Unusual breathing patterns
If any of the above mentioned symptoms are seen post-head trauma, we shall have to suspect an internal bleeding (Which shall compress the brain structures) and seek Medical attention immediately.
As for you concerned since there was a small period of disorientation, I advice to consult a Neurosurgeon immediately for doing a MRI Scan of the brain to rule out any internal bleeding.
take care,
Regards,
