History Of Pleurisy And Costochondritis. Have Pain Below Ribs, Low Iron. Mitral Valve Problem?

Hi I have heart pain when I lay down and bend over and get light headed. I have had pluracy and costalchondritis before but it doesn't feel like that now. It is a sharp pain under my left breast and fairly well behind my ribs. There is also congestive heary failure in the family as well as other heart problems... Also my iron is usually low even though I eat meat and veggies a lot and then one day it will be ok and the not the next. most of the tests done in the ER were ok (xray and blood work), however I am still in pain and the Dr would not givr me a referal for a cardiologist. My son also had low iron and a heart murmur. Could this be a mitral valve problem I can feel a cool flutter at times also and what more can be done to follow up? Thank-You so much.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

It has no relation to the pleurisy and costochondritis of the past.
The pain is probably muscular – pain from the heart is oppressing, in central chest (and left), worse on effort, relieved by rest, may radiate to shoulders and arms, associated with sweating and so on.
Light headedness could be from anaemia (iron deficiency) / you may have to see a haematologist and get investigated, if the iron deficiency runs in the family... / Postural hypotension is a possibility / The body's balancing mechanism is in the inner ear. An ENT (Ear Nose Throat) specialist may have to be seen, especially if there is ringing in the ears..
Disorder of rate or rhythm (arrhythmia) may be responsible for the flutter and/or light headedness – especially with mitral valve prolapse...
You have not stated your personal habits, co-morbidities, even age ...which could influence the diagnosis and outcome...

The ideal option is to see the cardiologist.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
