I am 62 years old with 5ft 9inches height and 102 Kg weight. Lost weight of 14 Kg in one and a half month (between Feb & Mar 2013) and started looking sick. First medical diagonsis shows high sugar 260/201on 16 Mar 13. After controlling with Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg (bd) for a month came to sugar level 230/168on 16 Apr13. Now on Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg (bd). Weight is steady at 88 Kg but look and feel continues to be sickly. Is there any chance of alarming desease?

Hello,

Your feeling of feeling and looking sickly is because of uncontrolled diabetes.

Uncontrolled diabetes results in various types of micro as well as Macrovascular complications involving eyes, heart, kidneys, nerves, blood vessels etc.

Although you were diagnosed recently but you might be having it for a long time.Your blood sugar levels are still high and needs a proper control.

Many times diabetes runs a silent course without the person coming to know of it.

You must consult a diabetologist or an internal medicine specialist and get yourself thoroughly examined and investigated.

There are plenty of good oral anti diabetic medicines available now which can keep your blood sugar levels normal.

Along with medications, take proper dietary restrictions and do regular aerobic exercises like brisk walk for at least 30 minutes a day.

Get your blood sugar fasting and PP done along with lipid profile, kidney function tests ,urine test and eye examination by an ophthalmologist.

Thanks

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
You are Overweight and Diabetic and taking treatment. If some one loses weight rapidly sick look is bound to occur and as there are wrinkles and weakness.
It is better to lose weight slowly may be 2 Kg/month and take proper vitamin and micronutrients supplements as advised by doctor. The drug Metformin also causes weight loss.
The weight loss is intentional so there should not be any disease, but if you feel so it is better to investigate in consultation of Physician to be sure we do not miss anything because chances are less but it is not 100%
Please continue good work and control blood sugar to desirable levels.
Take care of diet and exercise and if everything is fine in medical check up then just go little bit slow that is 2 Kg /month.
Once you reach a level near your ideal weight maintain it .
Take care, hope this helps.
