Hip Pain Radiating To Buttock. Have Sciatica Symptoms In Leg. Relief With Cortisone Injections. Will ACP Injections Help?

Hi! I have a 24 year history of lateral hip pain. Over last 10 years the pain has radiated to the buttock area. It has also included sciatica like symptoms in the right leg. I have had numerous cortisone injections into the trochanteric bursae with pain relief for about 3 to 4 months. I have also had two CT guided injections into the right piriformis with significant decrease in the sciatica like symptoms. I say like symptoms meaning that it was not a true sciatica i.e. electric sensation into the heel but a sick type of sciatica where something was pressing on the nerve. The piriformis is in the normal position. My question is what are the long term options for this disease considering I am now 58 years old? Would ACP injections help in this syndrome or are these injections just for tendon related tears? Thanks!

Nephrologist 's  Response
Hello

Thanks for the query

From the description you have given it looks like your condition is not yet diagnosed. But it doesnt look like it is arising from the tendons, so ACP injection might not be of any use to you. I suggest you to take nerve conduction study and also MRI of hip to come to a firm diagnosis of your problem. If already done then please take a second opinion from a neurologist.

I hope I was of help

Regards
