High Serum Prolactin Levels. Metformin Prescribed. On Yasmin Pills. Are These Medications Safe?

I have serum prolactin level 27.81 ng/ml. I am 26 years old. My gynecologist has prescribed me metformin 500 (twice daily) and Yamini pills once everyday from 5th day of periods. I had an ultrasound and everything is normal. My blood sugar level is normal. So are these medicines ok? Or are they harmful for me? What are the side effects?

It appears that you are probably suffering from Polycystic ovarian Syndrome. The drugs prescribed will help with the symptoms ,regular exercise and losing weight if obese will also help.the drugs are safe and will probably not cause any significant problems. The Metformin may cause nausea,Gi disturbance ,pain abdomen and very rarely lactic acidosis. The side effects of the Yamini would be weight gain ,edema, headaches and nausea.
