How Should Pain At The Back Of My Head That Began After Taking Sumatriptan Be Treated?

Hi, I’m 19 years old. Are usually get migraines or tension headaches, but this is different. I went to a Walgreens clinic for a migraine, and she gave me a sumatriptan prescription and I had an allergic reaction to it, ever since then I’ve been getting nothing but pressure and aching pains in the back of my head all the way up to the top my head. The pain won’t go away and it’s been like this for two weeks. The tension headache/migraine went away but this pain won’t go. Sometimes the pain is dull sometime it’s very full. And I’m pretty sure my ears are infected.

Hi,

It's important to seek medical attention promptly for any pain or symptoms that persist for an extended period. Since you have already had an allergic reaction to Sumatriptan, it's crucial to avoid taking it again. You should contact the healthcare provider who prescribed Sumatriptan to you and inform them about your symptoms.

They may recommend a different medication to relieve your headache and evaluate you for a possible ear infection. Over-the-counter pain medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen may provide temporary relief from your symptoms. However, it's essential to follow the recommended dosage and consult with your healthcare provider before taking any medication.

Additionally, you may try non-medical interventions like applying a warm or cold compress to the affected area or practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing or yoga. Remember to drink plenty of water, get enough rest, and maintain a healthy diet to support your overall well-being. If your symptoms worsen or persist, seek immediate medical attention or go to the nearest emergency room.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
