What Could Cause Vertigo Despite Taking Meclizine For Dizziness In An Elderly Man?

Hi, my father is 89 and has copd. Last week he was involved with vertigo first when he went to bed and waking. We went to emergency room and after some exam doctor said the reason of dizziness is related to his inner ear and gave him Meclizine 25mg whenever he has dizziness, first he was ok but two days ago dizziness began when he move his head aside and after using the medication he was sleepy and feel weakness and no more better.

Hi,

Dizziness is an inner ear disorder and the drug your father received is known to cause sleepiness. Most of the time, take bed rest, avoid triggering movements and take the medicinal course for 3-7 days to give relief. If not more specific tests are needed for more specific diagnosis and treatment.
