Is Vaginal Swelling Normal While Using Misoprostol Vaginally Yesterday And Today Before Having A Polyp Removed?

Hi. Tomorrow morning I’m having a polyp removed from my uterus. My doctor had me take 200mcg of Misoprostol vaginally yesterday and today. I’m having vaginal swelling, things are looking a little puffy. Is this normal when using this medication? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Misoprostol is for dilatation of cervical canal from which the polyp is to be removed. It is for preparation of the procedure polypectomy. The mild swelling is due to normal action of drug. Unless, it's painful or itchy (which can indicate allergy or inflammation which needs to be informed to treating surgeon).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
