Would AFI Caressing From 22 To 12 At 33rd Week Of Pregnancy Be An Issue?

Hi, I am currently in 33rd week of pregnancy. In 30th week scan, my AFI is 22. But in 32nd week, AFI level decreased to 12. Please let me know whether it will be a problem and let me know how I can maintain fluid level. Also please let me know the reason for the fluid decrease. I am very much worried.

OB & GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

An AFI of 12 is normal at 32 weeks. Level of amniotic fluid tends to change with gestational age. It is highest at around 30 weeks there after the level tends to fall down. Thus, you needn't worry. As long as the baby is gaining weight and other ultrasound parameters are normal you needn't worry. AFI below 5 is only abnormal.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Praseetha Narayanan, OB & GYN Specialist
