Hello. I Have Been Taking .05 Mg Of Lorazepam At

Hello. I have been taking .05 mg of lorazepam at night when I wake up and can t go back to sleep. This was prescribed by my excellent doctor in Philadelphia. She said it was such a small dose that I could take it for the rest of my life with no addictive effect. We have moved to Arizona and today I saw a nurse practitioner who really cautioned me against using this medication regularly. Who should I believe. Thank you.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Lorazepam belongs to the family of drugs called benzodiazepines.

These medications all have the potential for tolerance (a person needs more and more of the medication for the same effect to occur) and dependence (body comes to rely of the medication, stopping causes withdrawal).

Tolerance and dependence can potentially occur at any dose but it is less at the dose you are using.
The length of time these medications are used, also plays a role in developing tolerance, dependence.

If you have an alternative sleep aid, it should used.

I hope this helps
