Why Does Itchiness Remain Even After Four Months Post Shingles Infection?

Hello, I had Shingles on the left side of my face about 4 months ago, the pain lasted at least 2 months and now itching remains. I also have noticed my left hand shakes if I hold something a little bit heavy like a glass of water. I do not take medication for it anymore as it didn't seem to help. What should I do?

Hello,

You are suffering from post shingles itchiness on the left side of the face. Your left hand shakes if you hold anything heavy. Shingles affects the nerves, it is a dermatological condition and also a neurological condition that can leave one with neuro symptoms such as pain and itching. Pain and itching is often reported from time to time in patients suffering from shigella or as a complication of post shigella infection.

You are suggested to continue taking the medicines prescribed by your treating doctor. It is commonly treated with a course of ciprofloxacin or azithromycin. Take Nervup OD, once daily for 10-15 days to boost up your nerve health. You can also take food rich in vitamin B6, B12, folic acid, etc. To get rid of itching you can apply ointment Capsaicin or calamine lotion. Lidocaine cream and patches also work well. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Post shingles itch, post shingles neuralgia occurs in patients with shingles who have persistent nerve damage after subsiding rashes. This neuropathic condition of itching is caused by Herpes Zoster virus when they kill or damage the neurons which cause itch and pain sensations. It also may produce numbness along with an itchy feeling. Post shingles itch usually disappears over a few weeks to months, but can last for more than a year or longer.

For relieving itching and discomfort, you can try to some measures and medications like applying cool compresses on affected area, soothing baths and lotions like colloidal oatmeal bath or calamine lotion, applying a cream called Zostrix which contains capsaicin or extract of pepper, using antihistamines for reducing itching, applying lidocaine on the affected area, taking antidepressants or steroids may be helpful for relieving itchiness. You can also consult your doctor for treating Post shingles itch.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
