hi there, your wife has an intramural fibroid or a small muscular benign growth in her uterus which is causing her athe symptoms of heavy menstural bleeding.Usually when there is a fibroid in the uterus the uterine blood vessals are not able to contract properly postmensturally and hence one keeps bleed ing for a longer time. Your doctor has prescribe some hormonal pills to decrease the bleeding and some vitamins to take care of the deficiency that may arise due to thsis heavy bleeding. Do continue them and see if they help. A definitive treatment is surgery and should only be opted for if the symptoms are debilitating or incurable. Fibroids are a common finding in women specially over 35 yrs of age and there is nothing to be perturbed about but rather take the proper action and relax. Take care.
