General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi ! GERD causes reflux of acid from stomach, which causes retro sternal burning sensation, along with spasm of the esophagus resulting in pain mimicking cardiac pain. Once the cardiac cause is excluded there is nothing to worry.

I would suggest you to elevate the head end of your bed with wooden blocks, so that the food is prevented from regurgitating into your esophagus. This goes a long way in relieving the symptoms of GERD.

You should continue with the medications prescribed by your treating doctor. An addition of anti amebic like metronidazole may also help on consultation with your doctor.

On the dietary aspect, I would advise you to go for high roughage diet with enough liquids, and avoid fried and fatty food and citrus fruit and juices.

Wishing you an early recovery.
