Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. I am concerned for the over the counter medication that you have been taking to help you with sleep. Most over the counter medications wreck the sleep architecture and do not give you a restful sleep. I also believe that you might be having a side effect from the medication when you say that you need to wake up and stretch before you fall back asleep again. There are many medications that are sleep aids and some sedative hypnotics that will help with sleep. There are also medications that help relieve your anxiety and get you to sleep for the same reason. I also believe that the medications like melatonin which are naturally occurring hormones may also help in your sleep. Many CBT techniques are also helpful for sleep. Please consult a psychiatrist who can help you with your sleep problems.

I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!
