Having Palpitations, Feeling Uneasy. ECG, Heart Scan Normal. No Heart Problems In Family. Suggestions?

Hi. I've been having harsh palpitations for almost a year now. Especially when I exercise. I consider myself very fit. It's very startling and stops me on my bike or skates. Sometimes it's not even during high intensity. Just a stroll. A times it's a one off and others just a couple of minutes Inbetween up to ten times. I've never felt faint after but it is defo alarming.

I went to the hospital and all my ECG results were normal. They put me on a treadmill and said that was all normal. Had a heart scan and again the structure of my heart all seem fine, but I don't like having them. It's like a massive flutter and scares me. Should I be concerned?

No heart problems in my family. No sudden deaths but I am also quite often tachycardic. Most days my resting heart rate is 63-65. Not sure if you need any more info.....

Thank you!!!

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Irregular heart beats need to be DOCUMENTED by ElectroCardioGram (EKG). / Standard ECG records the electrical activity of the heart, for a few seconds. It can detect the arrhythmia occurring during that time only. If the episode occurs randomly or precipitated by a specific activity like exercise, one needs Holter or event monitor. Holter records for days; Event monitor for weeks / Holter records continuously / Event monitor only at certain times .
If there are no clues and if the problem is still bothering to the extent of interfering with life style, you may need Electro Physiological Studies (EPS) > it resembles angio – a catheter is put inside the heart / electrical activity recorded / stimulation and suppression tests are carried out / suitable medicine tested and so on. Though the test is the gold standard, it is INVASIVE and is not generally done unless there are compelling indications. This super-speciality expert is called ELECTRO-PHYSIOLOGIST. The treating doctor may suggest them depending on need, based on his assessment of the situation.
There are other advanced treatment modalities - like ablation (thermal or radio-frequency), which could be done during EPS.
     Discuss with your doctor...

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
