Having Irregular Bowel Movements. Could It Be Due To Stress? Any Cure?

Hi, I m a 28 year old healthy female with no history of any health issues. For the past three months I have had irregular bowel movements. What I mean is that it is always sticky and often light in color. Sometimes it comes out thinner than usual, but definitely NOT pencil thin. I also have to wipe a lot to get the area clean. I do not have any other symptoms. There is no pain and no blood(since its usually light). I used to be very regular. Could this be simply from stress or could it be something else?

Hello and welcome,

Thanks for your query.

From your description, there could be quite a few possibilities. There is a chance of having worms, or even a disorder called Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). It is a good thing there is no blood in your stools. Also do you experience any other symptoms?

But, then again this could be stress-related as well.

It would be best to rule out any chances of an infection or worms first. This can be done by getting your stool analysed. This test will show the presence of any worms or their eggs in the stools, or any excess of any other bacteria that can cause an infection.

If any of these are present, they can easily be treated. Once, these are ruled out, we could look into other possibilities.

Kindly visit a Gastro-enterologist once all other options have been ruled out.

I hope I have succeeded in answering your questions, you could write back to us anytime for further clarifications.

Best wishes.
