Having High LDL, Triglycerides Levels. Drinker, Eat Fish. Do I Need To Take Statin?

my total cholesterol is 255. my ldl is 135. my hdl is 73. my triglycerides is 235. hdl/ldl ratio is 0.541 total cholesterol ratio is 3.49 triglycerides/hdl ratio is 3.219. i exercise hard everyday. i recently became a vegan but i also eat fish. i have family history of high cholesterol . i do not smoke but drink daily. i am 62 and weigh 144 lbs and 5 ft 9 in tall. i do not take any medication and feel very healthy. do i need to take a statin.

Hello,
The negative aspect associated with high LDL is being countered by HDL cholesterol which is a good cholesterol.
Your triglycerides are high and should be brought to near 150 to 170 levels.
But since you are healthy and don't have any associated hypertension and diabetes,you may avoid taking the statin at the moment and go for little increase in exercises like brisk walking for 40 minutes a day and making dietary changes like
Moderating alcohol
Avoiding sweets and fried and fatty foods.
Avoiding colas and junk foods like noodles,pizzas and burgers etc.
Wait for three months and get your lipid lrofile repeated,you shall definitely be all right and your lipid levels should become all right.
But if it doesn't become all right,statin may be added as your family history for high cholesterol is present and that definitely is a risk factor.
