Having Bumps Under Skin, Containing Puss, Painful. Is It Due To Shaving Too Much?

hi, im having troubles down there. i seem to be getting bumps, under the skin, almost mountain-type bumps. kind of like large under the skin pimples that dont exactly come to a head but they are of a nice size. are they from maybe shaving too much? i dont have any diseases or anything. sometimes they grow and have pus on the inside, other times its just big and under the skin - & painful.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi, thanks for posting your query

from your description it seems you are having pseudofollculitis , which occurs due to shaving close to the skin, mostly seen in beard area , can be seen in other areas like pubic or under arms

the sharp edges of hair irritate the structures within the skin , leading to raised bumps which may or may not be pus filled

in your case
take anti inflamatory medicines like ibuprofen
local application of mupirocin ointment twice a day
avoid shaving untill bumps disappear

TO prevent recurrances
Dont shave too deep
use fresh razor each time
maintain proper lubrication while shaving
Shave in the direction of hair

consider permanent hair reduction with Laser therapy

hope this helps you
