Having Adenovirus With Pink Eye, Tried Drops But No Reduction In Swelling Or Redness. How Long To Cure ?
My son is 26 months old. He just got over having adenovirus with pinkeye in one eye. The dr gave us drops even though she said it was probably viral and wouldn't work anyway. We did the drops for 7 days and no change until the redness and swelling went away. Now, after being over the virus for 4 or 5 days or so that eyelid on the affected eye is a bit droopy. I notice it makes his eye look smaller than the othe one. When should This droopiness go away if the "pinkeye" symptoms are all gone.

Adenovirus is known to cause severe type of conjunctivitis characterized by pain, redness and edema of the eyelids. The droopy eyelids which you have noticed is because of inflammatory edema of the eyelids.
There is no effective drug available against adenovirus. The mainstay of treatment is by antibiotic eye drops to prevent secondary bacterial infection. Few cases of adenoviral conjunctivitis may develop adenoviral keratitis, which requires treatment by weak steroid eye drops under strict supervision of ophthalmologist.
Depending on the severity of inflammation, the infection requires treatment between 1 week to 3 months.
Hence I advice you to take treatment as told by your eye doctor without fail.
