hai doctor, iam glad to introduce my self as ASHOK KUMAR, presently iam diagnoised with typhoid fever labreport says s. typhi o 1:80 dilution positive, currently doctor has prescibed tablets like dolo 650, vomikind, and cefixime , . but ihave a doubt, earlier i have been treated for typhoid in 1998 where doctors have gave me antibiotics like chloramphenicol, please do enlighten me on this.regards, my email id : YYYY@YYYY

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
You have been treated correctly by Cefixime. This is a third generation cephalosporin which is commonly used nowadays. Chloramphenicol was the drug of choice a decade back. The bacteria causing typhoid nowadays are not easily killed by chloramphenicol, meaning they have developed resistance to the drug hence stronger antibiotics are preferred. I hope I have cleared your doubts regarding this. Please complete the full course of antibiotics prescribed by your doctor. I suggest fluid diet and rest till you recover completely.
